Essay about Account on Mandelbaum
Essay about Account on Mandelbaum Essay about Account on Mandelbaum Zacharia Fouda Professor Harris RWS 100 9/25/12 Account to Mandelbaum Every country in the world experiences a way of expressing their physical activities in sports. Most commonly in the world, football (soccer) is generally the religion of many. This is not the case in America. The Americans are more focused on the sports they have invented, such as American football, basketball, and baseball. In the first chapter of his book, ââ¬Å"A Variety of Religious Experiencesâ⬠in ââ¬Å"The Meaning of Sports,â⬠Mandelbaum explains to you what these sports are like in America and how these sports affect the people as a general populace. Mandelbaum uses rhetorical tools such as ethos, pathos, and logos to enhance how well he delivers his points. In this essay, I will talk about how his rhetorical tools affect his arguments. Mandelbaumââ¬â¢s argument is more focused on presenting the information in a way to educate you. Most of what he says in the passage is generally researched information that you have to take his word for. I could have gone and searched them myself on Google, but Mandelbaum comes off as a guy that knows what heââ¬â¢s talking about, and itââ¬â¢s not like he made research to write these facts, itââ¬â¢s as if he just knows it off of the top of his head. ââ¬Å"The industrial revolution brought to the United States and to the world modern methods of transportation, and on these, too, the emergence of team sports depended,â⬠(Mandelbaum, 40) you canââ¬â¢t help but think that he lived through this and he realized what was going on. Americans adore sports and itââ¬â¢s something they take to the grave. It is a very logical point that it is a form of escapism, and returning to the blissful, childhood past that is when you played sports as a child as an implied insight on the subject. The rest is to be taken based off of Mandelbaumââ¬â¢s heavy reliance on his ethos here. According to Mandelbaum, nowadays, sports help with one of the most primitive needs as a human, the spiritual needs and the needs of the psyche. (42) The information is set up as a ââ¬Å"take it or leave itâ⬠sort of situation for the reader, it is up to the reader to decide if his ethos is sufficient to believe his claims. Mandelbaum connects baseball, football, and basketball as a way to oneââ¬â¢s past as a form of pathos. In my opinion, this is a phenominal explanation but the pathos isnââ¬â¢t exactly obvious since one must delve into what he actually meant. When humans are children, a huge part of their life is to play a sport. They will most likely join a team and carry it with them for the rest of their lives and that will always be the sport that they played. When that child, as an adult starts to play that game again, they will reminisce about the times they p layed the sport as a child. They will remember that baseball championship final and when he stood there with his bat, his heart beating and the way he got 3 strikes out and blew the game. Generally, it could have gone as a success or a disaster and either way heââ¬â¢s going to remember it because he is playing baseball. Mandelbaum states that ââ¬Å"the word sport is related to ââ¬Å"disportâ⬠- to divert oneself. Baseball, football, and basketball divert spectators from the burdens of normal existence,â⬠(41) this supports his argument tremendously since it solidifies the effect of his pathos argument. He describes it as a religious experience, as if people take a mental pilgrimage into their soul. Since most of this piece of writing is focusing on logos to argue more, I think this is as pathos as itââ¬â¢s going to get. This is the one argument that can appeal to oneââ¬â¢s emotion. It isnââ¬â¢t a bad one since anyone that plays sports can relate to it. As for the more sophisticated people, he relates this to the Odyssey with the team being the protagonist, facing many challenges to achieve a goal, and getting through those challenges (41) cause you to reminisce on how you did it. Most of the rest of his arguments are more realistic. He states that the feats you see in a

Assignment Example Consequently, McDonaldââ¬â¢s is liable to pay to Liebeck for all the damages. In this scenario, I would analyse this situation from the Communitarian point of view. It speaks of shifting the balance of rights and responsibilities from the individual to the society. Liebeck here is at the same time trying to enjoy the liberty of being a free individual and is also trying to shift the blame of her individualistic errors in actions and judgement on to McDonalds. But still under the principle of compensatory justice, McDonalds by giving compensation to Liebeck, tried to restore her for the burns she received by the coffee spill over. (Bohlman and Dundas, 2004) However, there are no hard and fast rules when determining the compensation. But ethics and law make an effort that the tortfeasor is able to restore an amount equal to the loss incurred. But Liebeck here got compensation not on basis of her damages but on the basis of earnings which McDonalds makes. Important here is that Liebeck here received such generous amount in damages not because she got injured. Bu t because McDonalds acted rash and used statistics over ââ¬Ëethics of careââ¬â¢ in dealing with Liebeck; which made the jury decide the verdict in her favour. 2) In light of the above case, what would you propose as an outline plan if you were in charge of business that supplied scientific equipment to engineering laboratories? Assume you have a contract in place to supply the laboratory for 10 years. When assuming the role of a supplier of scientific equipment to the engineering laboratories. The most important law that I must be aware of is the ââ¬ËContract Lawââ¬â¢. A contract is made between two parties by the process of offer and acceptance. In this case, engineering laboratories would have made an offer of to my firm for supply of equipment. The offer would have had clearly written down the details of equipment needed and all details pertaining to the business should be written. Then, my

Their goal was to reduce it overall consumption of energy by 15% of its 2008 levels by 2012 to achieve efficient consumption of energy in its manufacturing. The company has also launched a green product range in all its business sectors to heighten its awareness of its energy efficient and products that are considerable to the environment. The other strategy was a move to outsource its production from developed countries in a bid to come up with high quality products. However, the company needs to be mindful of the cost of labor in such countries which is fast rising (Hill & Jones, 2012). The company has also embraced advanced technology to meet the changing demand and tastes of appliances by consumers, For instance the development of vacuums that transmit lower noises. Everyone should get check-ups regularly Essay Example for Free
Everyone should get check-ups regularly Essay Through time people have become more and more afraid of physicians. This results in fewer and fewer doctor or dentist visitations. This is not a good habit to fall into. Everyone should get regular doctor and dentist check-ups. The reason for this is to prevent loss of teeth, diseases, and many other things. Firstly, if you started to loose your teeth this would be a very unattractive thing. Many people try to pull this look off and they just cannot do it, very much like the mullet. Why not just go to the dentist every six months for a regular check-up and have your teeth cleaned, x-rayed, and examined so you do not have to have your food in smoothie form because you cannot chew your food with your two teeth. Some more motivation to go to the dentist might be that with those two teeth chilling with all those gums you do not have a very good chance getting a date, a girlfriend, or a wife, unless the girl you are seeing only has two teeth also, then in that case it is all good. Secondly, you should not just wait until you get sick to go to the doctor. You should go at least once a year for a full physical and check-up. Many people let it go until it is too late. This is the case for many things like heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, lung disease, glaucoma, macro-degeneration, and cancer. These are diseases that cannot be let go, and if let go, could cause death, blindness, or other more severe diseases. Many of these diseases can be eliminated or slowed down if caught at an early stage and may save or extend your life just by getting regular check-ups and physicals. Thirdly, men and women should both go and see their respective genital doctor. Many lives could be saved every year if men and women alike would go get these check-ups to avoid getting testicular cancer, which is becoming more and more prevalent, ovarian cancer, breast cancer, which men can even get, and other diseases which are tied together with peoples private parts. No one should be ashamed or scared to go and see these doctors; no oneà should ever be ashamed or scared to try to keep and maintain him or her a healthy body and lifestyle. In conclusion, everybody, grab your wallets, HMO cards, blue cross ? blue shield cards, and head to your nearest dentist or doctor to get your check-ups and physicals. You do not have to hardly anything but sit there and smile. So, open your mouth, stick out your tongue, bite down on this, lift your arms over your head, turn your head and cough, lift up your shirt, drop your drawers, touch you toes, look into the light, and brace yourself Ethel cause that stethoscope is kind of cold. And please do not forget to brush your teeth and before you go to any of these places because dentists and doctors like to see you but do they really need to smell you as well?

Dowry system in India From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Essay
This article may require cleanup to meet Wikipediaââ¬â¢s quality standards. The specific problem is: reference formatting. Please help improve this article if you can. (March 2013) In India, dowry (Hindi: , Daheja in Hindi)[1] is the payment in cash or some kind of gifts given to bridegroomââ¬â¢s family along with the bride. Generally they include cash, jewellery,[2] electrical appliances, furniture, bedding, crockery, utensils and other household items that help the newly-wed set up her home. The dowry system is thought to put great financial burden[3] on the brideââ¬â¢s family. It has been one of the reasons for families and women in India resorting to sex selection [4] in favor of sons. [5] This has distorted the sex ratio of India (940 females per thousand males [6])and has given rise to female foeticide. [7] The payment of a dowry has been prohibited under The 1961 Dowry Prohibition Act in Indian civil law and subsequently by Sections 304B and 498a of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Contents [hide] 1 Domestic violence 2 Laws 3 False dowry allegations 4 See also 5 References 6 External links Domestic violence[edit] In 2001 nearly 7,000 dowry deaths[8] were registered in India over inadequate dowry, apart from other mental trauma cases. [9] Bride burning,[10] inducing suicides, physical and mental torture by their husband or in-laws is sometimes found to be done if the bride fails to bring sufficient dowry. [11] There are laws like Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 that help to reduce domestic violence and to protect womenââ¬â¢s rights. Laws[edit] See also: Dowry law in India Dowry became prohibited by law in 1961 with the purpose of prohibiting the demanding, giving and taking of dowry. To stop the offences of cruelty by husband or his relatives on the wife, section 498-A was added in Indian Penal Code and section 198-A in the Criminal Procedure Code in the year 1983. False dowry allegations[edit] The dowry law (article 498a) is thought to sometimes have been misused[12] by women to lodge false or exaggerated complaints against husbands and entire extended family accusing them of cruel behavior. As per the data only 2% of the cases registered for dowry demand have led to conviction of the groom or groomââ¬â¢s family. This had raised questions about rampant misuse of dowry laws in India by women to harass husbandââ¬â¢s family. According to one survey conducted by reputed Indian news magazine India Today, over 90% of government servants actively seek and get dowry in marriage. It is a common feature for unmarried government servants to seek dowry relevant to the market rates of their post. These rates are sky-high, with an estimate of dowry rates for a bachelor IAS Officer (Indian Administrative Services) being as high as Rs 50 Lac to Rs 5 Crore (up to USD 1 Million). These high rates are one of the primary reasons for corruption as young IAS officers after marriage are forced to take bribes to maintain their new lifestyle and match the financial status of their wealthy in-laws. Personal Narrative Losing My Dad - 1751 Words
Losing my dad I once read a book about a guy who believes that everyone gets a tragedy at some point in their life. I never thought this could be true, because some people have great lives, and even if they do not how would they decide what the single hardest moment was? Recently my father passed away, and I realized you do not get to decide, you just know. This had been the hardest point in my life, however, the same book taught me that good things can come out of any bad experience if you look for them. Before I could see that I had to deal with many things, such as realizing he was really gone, going to his funeral, and going back to school. I also had to cope with the fact that I would never have the chance to change the relationship Iâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦We all believed him, because he would never show if something was wrong, and he was easy to trust. He passed away on Wednesday, April 19th of this year. I go to my boyfriend Cameronââ¬â¢s house on Wednesday mornings, and I was th ankful that I had him with me when I found out. The way that I found out was not ideal, and it is still aggravating now. Before leaving for school I decided to check a group chat with about ten of my friends in it. One of them had said something died, I do not remember what, and my brother responded with ââ¬Å"My dad died.â⬠When I read this I thought he was trying to be funny, so I got mad, and sent him a text saying that it was not something to joke about. Then I showed Cameron the texts, and he told me it seemed like my brother was just trying to annoy me, so I agreed and stopped worrying about it. When he told me he was serious we began to fight and I did not realize that he was not messing with me up until I was walking out the door for school. My brother said that my stepmom had called him around one in the morning to tell him the news. He did not tell me what happened, but I did not feel like I needed to know. By the time I realized it was true it was too late to go home so I had no choice but to go to school. My mom texted me, just finding out, and told me she was coming to pick me up.
